About this opportunity ....

The Master Data Office is a new enterprise team at Ross transforming how data drives business value. Master data at Ross is the core reference data around which business is conducted (e.g. supplier master list, product hierarchy etc.). There are 5 key domains (product, item, supplier, org, location) of master data.

The MDO Supplier leader will be responsible for managing the Supplier Master Data domain (data, team and operational processes). This includes ensuring data integrity through governance and compliance while managing business demand. The Sr. leader will also be responsible for building the strategic roadmap and executing to these strategies by working closely with business stakeholders (Sr. Merchants) and our strategic partners (Legal, Finance, IT) to analyze, cleanse, enrich, and continuously refresh Supplier Master data.

Responsibilities...

Master Data Domain and Team

Manage all operational (data & request management) responsibilities. Key duties include managing a team and processes around master data requests (entry, review and approvals) through workflows in multiple applications including MDM tool, Excel, reporting tools etc.

This includes
  • Managing business requests efficiently to ensure that they are implemented timely and according to set data governance standards and processes.
  • Managing Master Data Management Tools including MDM application, related enhancements/upgrades and excel databases etc.
  • Managing data projects key to operational duties including periodic data scrubbing (cleansing), enrichment (updates) and audits to ensure data integrity
  • Managing both internal and external process, tool and data Audits
  • Managing the team and their development, includes defining clear goals and expectation, mentoring and motivating people


Strategic Business Partner
  • Build content knowledge around how the business end-users use Supplier data to run the business and proactively bring data expertise to the stakeholders.
  • Be the main point of contact for multiple business departments across the organization (e.g. Merchants, Planners, and support areas like Merchandising, Legal, Corporate Finance and IT).
  • Address expedited (rushed) requests, and troubleshoot issues around data requests
  • Establish and manage relationships, proactively seeking business insight into upcoming activities impacting Master Data and key business decisions.
  • Educate the organization about MDOs mission, data challenges or insights through proactive communication or training.


Documentation and Roadmap
  • Guide the Master data team around establishing strong documentation for both existing processes and operational guides
  • Streamline and automate reporting to support operational efficiencies
  • Build and publish business facing information that promotes data visibility
  • Establish Data roadmap for Supplier, Suppliers Attributes and related processes
  • Establish service roadmap for Supplier requests starting with defining an approach for managing current data challenges.
  • Contribute to budget and 5 Year Planning through analysis of the operations and service demand


Business Analysis, Governance, and Adoption to Ensure Data Integrity
  • Lead business analysis - including pulling data, analyzing operational or statistical data - to support key strategic priorities for the department
  • Develop compelling materials to communicate results of analysis and key insights across MDO Domains and with the business
  • Lead periodic audits to ensure data integrity and verify all Master Data Management processes around data governance are followed
  • Lead the team and business to resolve or escalate requests that do not comply with MDO governance
  • Identify opportunities and contribute to data integrity goals


Process improvement/Projects
  • Project management and coordination skills working with multiple stakeholders across disparate departments and agendas to drive common goals.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to align on priorities, ensure business requirements for Data are clearly defined, well documented, communicated and understood
  • Establish new processes, routines while maintaining process consistency
  • Ability to contribute (actively provide guidance) in a large-scale program
  • Manage Project activities including business requirements (gathering, documentation), tool build and testing, process build and testing, governance model etc.


Who you are...
  • You have a Bachelor or MBA Degree with a concentration in Business, Economics, Finance or Computer Science, or an equivalent diploma
  • You have 7-10 years of experience preferably in Retail (preferred), IT or consulting field, with strong process, data, and systems understanding
  • You have prior Data Governance and Administration experience or exposure, preferred
  • You have outstanding analytical ability: Must have a data driven approach to solving problems. Requires very strong quantitative skills and a good sense of how to structure problems.
  • You have the ability to orchestrate change
  • You have knowledge of business process documentation that includes prior experience with documenting Merchandising, IT or Finance workflows, processes and requirements
  • You have project management and coordination skills working with multiple stakeholders across disparate departments
  • You have a strong understanding of productivity suite software (i.e. Microsoft Office)
  • You operate as subject matter expert for merchandise systems, vendor management, and processes
  • You have the ability to understand and apply instructions or suggest alternate proven methods to move projects or requests forward
  • You have the ability to handle ambiguity effectively and be comfortable with operating in grey
  • You have the ability to follow established practices, policies and procedures
  • You have atrong communication skills (Excellent written and verbal communication skills)
  • You have the ability to build working relationships with peers
  • You have the ability to adjust with changing work environments, priorities and goals
