Shortage Operations Analyst

The Shortage Control Analyst is responsible for supporting the planning and operational execution of the semi-annual store physical inventories "PI" process and the analysis/reporting of shrink results. The analyst will provide operational store support by planning, scheduling and monitoring the daily execution of store inventory counts. The analyst will attend local store inventory events to develop an in-depth technical understanding of the store and vendor count process and systems to become a "PI knowledge expert" who can troubleshoot and resolve inventory related issues with all levels of the Ross/dd's field organization. The analyst will cross-train to understand and prepare monthly shortage reports for back-up reporting needs and will be responsible for determining root cause for shrink exception stores and shrink related concerns throughout the year.


• Monitor the daily activities associated with store physical inventories. Schedule store physical inventories and troubleshoot/resolve conflicts with Inventory Vendor, Regional Inventory Captains and Field Management teams.

• Perform weekly analysis of historical data and trends to develop and maintain unit estimate model.

• Partner with Regional Captains to create and maintain inventory tracking sheets, daily monitoring and tracking of inventory day vendor issues and preparation/analysis of post inventory vendor recaps and results.

• Monitor execution of self-scan inventory counts. Ensure timely receipt, testing and return of equipment, inventory close out, report downloads and prepare/analyze recap reports and results.

• Conduct in depth data analysis to identify root causes of shrink concerns and communicate findings to field and corporate business partners.

• Cross train with other shortage team members to prepare and distribute various shortage reports for back up reporting needs. Be able to provide actionable feedback and reports to field operations. Partner with cross functional groups to communicate exceptions and findings.

• Accounting or Business Degree preferred

• 2+ years of experience in financial / business analysis (retail experience preferred)

• Outstanding analytical skills: Must have a data driven approach to solving problems

• Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy on work output

• Excellent customer service skills and ability to problem solve on the on the spot

• Strong fundamental business skills - must be Excel, Access and PowerPoint proficient

• Ability to manage large data sets

• Prioritize multiple competing projects under tight deadlines

• Retail store experience and/or working with a field organization preferred

• Good oral and written communication skills


Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
During inventory months, job requires local travel to stores during non-traditional hours (early morning and late nights).
May also require "on call" phone availability to provide field support for inventory related issues.
