Manager, Strategic Sourcing

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Ross Stores, Inc. is the fast-growing off-price retailer that can’t be missed. We’re taking the off-price retail industry by storm by delivering the best branded bargains to our customers across the nation, the District of Colombia and Guam. You will be a part of making that happen. Your role will be comprised of two main functions: leading strategic sourcing projects to help Ross procure the best services and products at the most competitive cost and ensure that quality and service are maintained.

In a typical week, you may participate in meetings with designers in our Fixture Design team to review samples of fixtures, review bid award scenarios with the VP of Store Strategy, and give a presentation to members of our senior management team to showcase your latest results. Your supply chain and sourcing knowledge will directly impact our team’s selection of fixtures (including finish, color, quantity and factory choice), installers (nationwide vs. local), and janitorial vendors (a complex mix of small vs. large vendors which you will analyze and determine best fit).

Your scope is broad and deep, you will have your hand in sourcing goods and services in over 40 categories. In addition, your collaboration with cross functional partners will drive the best purchasing decisions and your creative agility will play an integral role in making Ross Stores the most cost efficient off-price retailer in the industry.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Drive Strategic Sourcing Process Execution

  • Conduct detailed savings analysis and savings projections
  • Work with business owners to capture product and service specifications for RFx
  • Conduct detailed market and vendor research and communicate these findings through meaningful research summaries
  • Develop and manage project timelines and lead meetings
  • Develop RFx and create complex bidding spreadsheets
  • Manage RFx processes with minimal support, start-to-finish, for simple-to-medium complexity projects (to include market research, RFP development, management of bid communications, manage stakeholder involvement, etc.)
  • Evaluate RFx responses (quantitatively and qualitatively)
  • Facilitate the development of award scenarios and recommendations for stakeholder evaluation, consideration and decision-making

Project Management

  • Manage multiple projects with cross functional teams within Finance and Store Operations (e.g. Direct Imports program and multiple store fixtures categories
  • Independently originate and execute project work plans and successfully deliver on timelines and project goals and objectives
  • Manage portions of the Direct Imports program including multiple store fixtures categories. Interfacing with overseas suppliers in Asia and domestically in the USA is required.

Contract Development and Management

  • Review contracts to assess for potential sourcing project opportunities
  • Meet with Contracts Manager / Legal to follow-up on concerns relating to RFPs / sourcing projects
  • Draft contract terms upon the conclusion of a sourcing project for stakeholder hand-off/execution

Ad-Hoc Analysis and Project Support

  • Assist Sr. Manager with planned and unplanned projects from stakeholders across the company
  • Able to develop PowerPoint presentations for internal stakeholder communications / updates, also review other team members’ deliverables.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • BA/BS in Business, Economics, Accounting or Engineering. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Mandarin Chinese language skills is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years strategic sourcing experience. Multi-category sourcing experience required, including sourcing of both products and services.
  • Consulting experience preferred; experience in retail is a plus.
  • Contract writing and management experience preferred.
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Occasional international and domestic travel required with advanced notice given.
  • Experience in working with raw material / market indices.
  • Must have a data driven approach to solving problems.
  • Requires very strong quantitative skills and a good sense of how to dissect problems.
  • Must have very close attention to details and the drive to get things right with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, work independently and keep a high level of focus.
  • Must be able to listen, understand, and communicate with employees at all levels of the company.
  • Needs to be able to build effective working relationships within Ross.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:

Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.

Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.

Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.

Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
