GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Market Investigations Manager is responsible for protecting the company's assets by identifying, reviewing, and resolving significant external theft trends in partnership with Law Enforcement through the completion of execution routines. In partnership with Store Managers and Area Loss Prevention Managers, the Market Investigations Manager identifies objectives for store-based Senior Store Protection Specialists (Sr. SPS) and participates directly in the ongoing hiring, training, development, and performance of this team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve external theft and fraud incidents, striving to minimize the impact of loss to the company and address new types of external theft and fraud
  • Execute investigative routines by leveraging leads from the corporate Investigations team, reported theft data from stores and other investigative resources to resolve external theft trends or incidents
  • Report and provide supporting evidence of external theft incidents to local law enforcement agencies
  • Drive resolution and case closure on all external investigations, including timely follow up on leads from the corporate Investigations team and external intelligence from other retailers or law enforcement groups regarding current market theft trends
  • Coordinate with law enforcement to resolve external theft incidents in accordance with Ross Stores policies/procedures and local ordinances
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of all identified theft activity and related follow up; disseminate and communicate information as necessary and in accordance with Ross Stores policies/procedures
  • Drive impactful and effective Sr. SPS programs by participating in store efforts to hire, train, and develop Sr. SPS associates in assigned stores/area
  • Support the investigation of Serious External Incidents (burglaries, robberies, etc.) and provide expertise to drive resolution and mitigate future incidents
  • Utilize all available resources to monitor shortage trends and indicators and communicate important trends and information to Store Management, Field Operations and Loss Prevention teams as well as others within the organization.
  • Develop, maintain and foster effective working relationships with field and corporate LP partners to identify, investigate, and resolve priority external theft leads and incidents in a timely manner.
  • Establish and leverage regular communication with external business partners including law enforcement agencies, retail theft organizations, and other retail LP departments.
  • Follow and promote all Loss Prevention policies and procedures.
  • Perform other responsibilities and projects as assigned by LPVP.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • BA degree or greater, preferably in Business or Criminal Justice.
  • 5+ years directly-related, multi-unit Loss Prevention, Retail, and/or Investigative work experience to include Military or Law Enforcement.
  • Experience in driving successful external investigations, loss prevention, shortage control, and fraud prevention programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with Law Enforcement and other retail Loss Prevention personnel.
  • Self-motivated individual who can be successful in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent analytical skills and demonstrated ability to solve problems.
  • Proven ability to make good decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented.

  • Must have proficiency in and knowledge of computer software including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with Loss Prevention technologies (including CCTV systems and exception reporting systems) is advantageous.
  • Wicklander & Zulawski training preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
  • Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
  • Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
  • Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
  • Must be able to travel.
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time (up to 8 hours per day).
  • Frequent computer work required (up to 8 hours), involving repetitive arm/hand motions from keyboarding.
  • This role requires regular in-office presence, including to select stores and office areas to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shared supervisory responsibility for up to 30 store-based Senior Store Protection Specialists within assigned stores/district(s)/area. (Dotted Line)
