Freight Pay Specialist

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Analyzes freight invoices for accuracy and codes invoices for payment on a $300M annual freight expense. Monitors compliance to Ross Transportation Rates, Contracts, and Policies while adhering to Corporate Sarbanes and Oxley requirements. Acts a liaison between Finance, Logistics and other Ross departments, as well as with Vendors and Carriers on freight pay related issues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintain proper internal controls over freight payment for both inbound, outbound, and Store Deliveries to avoid overstatement/understatement of transportation expense. Annual freight expense $300M. Maintain a system that matches the invoices with inbound and outbound shipments that will prevent duplicate payments. This system will also assist in auditing of invoices and the accrual process.
  • Process incoming mail, Prepare freight invoices and codes for payment. Files and maintains the file room.
  • Investigates and resolves accounting issues relating to freight bill payment and auditing of freight bills.
  • Responsible for compiling monthly and yearly freight accruals.
    Summary of other duties:
  • Must be crossed trained on Inbound and Outbound freight pay systems. Note any billing patterns by carriers outside of the contracts. Communicate missing rates from the contracts with appropriate parties. Develop and maintain an Audit program. Communicate the findings to management. Document all procedures. Special projects as assigned by the Logistics Finance Manager

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-4 years experience in transportation freight pay or related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Strong self-motivation and the ability to work aggressively to complete projects.
  • Excellent Attendance

Preferred Requirements:

  • College degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3-5 years of transportation freight pay or operation experience.
  • Transportation background within the retail industry.
