Sr. Manager, Merchandise Payable


The Sr. Manager of Merchandise Payable is responsible for the operational and production aspects of domestic merchandise payables, while managing merchandise vendor accounts and relationships, assisting in forecasting monthly cost adjustments, assisting with the department’s SOX testing and compliance and managing the integration and execution of the department’s strategic objectives. This position is responsible for interacting with all levels of the merchandise team, IT, as well as external vendors to ensure a high degree of satisfaction with the Ross AP Merchandise function. Also, the Sr. Manager of Merchandise Payable oversees the AP Systems Solutions functions related to the suppliers onboarding and the merchandise payable and statistic reporting to the upper management.


• Develop, manage and maintain an effective Merchandise Payable teams within two groups of domestic and AP systems solutions, with a strong focus on recruiting, training, coaching and development.

• Monitor invoice transactions backlog, exceptions and workload to ensure productivity standards are met.

• Work closely with vendors and buyers to resolve escalated questions and issues in a timely manner.

• Provide reporting and analysis on merchandise vendor spending, DPO, cost adjustments and other types of Ad-hoc reporting as needed.

• Direct the activity of all associates involved in processing transactions for deductions or cost adjustments to ensure vendor payments are disbursed appropriately.

• Participate in the implementation of merchandise payable system enhancements within Ross ERP and 3rd party AP processing solution (Ariba & Symbeo).

• Develop and sustain departmental policies, procedures and objectives that provide for the timely and accurate payment of merchandise vendors, as well as harmonious vendor relations. Recommend updates to processes to achieve optimal efficiencies.

• Maintain Ross SOX documentation, compliance with SOX requirements and drive continuous improvement.

• Minimum of 5 years merchandise payable management or related experience

• Prior experience managing larger teams, ideally 10 or more employees

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or related field is required

• Knowledge of retail systems, 3rd party AP Solutions and merchandise payable highly desired

• Strong verbal and written communication skills; Communicates effectively and interacts professionally with co-workers, management, buyers and suppliers

• Must possess strong analytical skills along with intermediate to advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.


Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.

Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.

Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.

Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
