GENERAL PURPOSE
The Engineer II, Video Conferencing designs, builds, and continuously improves Ross Stores' enterprise unified communications, meeting room, and collaboration platforms. This role is responsible for defining engineering standards, architecture, and lifecycle strategies for Microsoft Teams Rooms, Microsoft Teams Phone, the Teams Pro Management Portal, the Poly conferencing ecosystem, digital signage platforms, and conference room audiovisual systems.
As a member of the enterprise Video Conferencing team, this role supports collaboration technology across all Ross Stores corporate offices, buying offices, and distribution centers, rather than a single location. The Engineer II ensures a consistent, reliable, and scalable user experience across a geographically distributed environment by establishing enterprise standards, leading multi-site deployments and refreshes, and partnering with cross-functional teams throughout the organization.
This position works closely with Network, Security, Telecommunications, Facilities, and local IT teams across multiple locations to deliver secure and effective collaboration solutions. The engineer regularly coordinates simultaneous projects across offices, supports location-specific business requirements, and partners with executives, business leaders, vendors, and integrators to implement technology solutions that enhance communication and productivity company-wide. Due to the broad organizational reach of this role, strong relationship management, communication, project coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential. The Engineer II also serves as the highest level technical escalation point for complex conferencing, voice, and audiovisual issues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Design and engineer enterprise collaboration solutions, including Microsoft Teams Rooms, Teams Phone, Teams Panels, and related Microsoft 365 services, in line with business, security, and scalability requirements.
• Define and maintain standard room designs and reference architectures for huddle rooms, conference rooms, boardrooms, and large meeting spaces. This includes equipment selection, layout, acoustics, and cabling standards.
• Engineer and maintain Teams Phone voice architecture, including AudioCodes session border controllers and devices, call routing, emergency calling, number management, and integration with telecom carriers.
• Build and maintain device configuration baselines, firmware and software update strategies, and policy settings using Teams Admin Center, Teams Pro Management Portal, Poly Lens, and Intune.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, reporting, and health checks using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, and other scripting tools to reduce manual effort and improve consistency.
• Partner with Network and Security teams to define network quality of service, bandwidth, firewall, and device security requirements for meeting room and voice platforms.
• Provide engineering leadership and support for collaboration technologies across all Ross Stores locations, ensuring consistent standards, user experience, and operational readiness across corporate offices, buying offices, and distribution centers.
• Use call quality and device telemetry data to find trends, improve reliability, and drive root-cause fixes rather than one-off repairs.
• Lead proofs of concept, technical evaluations, and pilots for new conferencing, AV, and signage technologies. Recommend solutions based on business value, cost, and supportability.
• Plan and deliver engineering projects, including new room builds, refresh cycles, migrations, and platform upgrades, from design through deployment and handoff to operations.
• Engineer and maintain the enterprise digital signage platform, including content delivery design, device management, scheduling integration, and lifecycle planning.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation, including architecture diagrams, build standards, runbooks, and knowledge base articles. Provide technical training and enablement to Help Desk and local support teams.
• Work with vendors and integrators on solution design, product roadmaps, escalations, and technical reviews.
• Track and report on platform health, usage, and capacity to support planning and investment decisions.
• Serve as Level 3 engineering escalation for complex conferencing, voice, and AV issues, including executive and high-visibility meetings.
