Community Initiatives

Supporting and investing in the local communities near our Stores, Distribution Centers, and offices has been an important part of our over 40-year history. We also empower Associates to lend their support through volunteerism and workplace giving. We're always on the lookout for new ways to make a difference and give back. These are just some of our efforts:

We support Boys & Girls Clubs of America, contributing more than $50M together with our generous customers, Associates, and partners (as of late 2024)

We partner with First Book, raising $8M and enabling the distribution of more than 2.7 million new books (as of late 2024)

We donate to a local Boys & Girls Club or First Book literacy partner every time we open a new Store

We provide gift card donations to nonprofit organizations near our Stores to help youth in our communities dress for success and reward positive academic behavior

We award grants to organizations building academic achievement and life skills in youth near our offices and Distribution Centers through our Regional Giving Program

We contribute to fashion and community support organizations near our Buying and Planning Offices, support the Fashion Scholarship Fund, and regularly donate shoes, clothing, and home goods samples to local nonprofit partners

In the San Francisco Bay Area near our Corporate headquarters, we encourage youth literacy by sponsoring the Golden State Warriors’ Read to Achieve program and a summer reading and literacy program with Bay FC

Operating Sustainably

Sustainability is ingrained in our Ross culture. For decades, we have worked hard to drive out waste and improve efficiency in our operations, which, in turn, has reduced our impact on the environment. Our programs and initiatives are always evolving. We are actively:

  • Pursuing our ambition to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 or sooner
  • Decreasing the amount of energy used in our Stores in areas such as climate control and lighting systems, and installing solar panels on the roofs where possible
  • Designing our new Stores with efficiency at the center
  • Making many efforts to reduce our energy consumption at our Distribution Centers such as air purging, LED lighting, and battery powered equipment
  • Implementing multiple energy saving initiatives at our Dublin headquarters, allowing us to achieve LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council
