About this Job:

 

The Senior Packaging Designer creates and executes packaging for a broad range of Direct Imports product. Adapts both private label and unbranded designs for new and existing products. Collaborates with Merchants to understand product positioning and packaging requirements to support key business strategies. Collaborates with Art Director and Manager Packaging to create on-brief, on-time packaging solutions and style guides that enhance the overall value of products. Collaborates with external partners, including agencies and overseas vendors to ensure consistent quality execution.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Packaging Design and Execution

  • Manages multiple, complex packaging projects simultaneously and accurately ensuring consistent execution of private labels
  • Proactively and independently delivers high quality packaging concepts to support a broad range of businesses
  • Able to communicate and adapt Ross’s off-price approach to packaging concepts
  • Partner with Packaging Manager to create guardrails for new design systems, communicating parameters and ensuring adherence across product categories
  • Ensures packaging is attractive, high quality with clear communication hierarch
  • Proactively proposes improvements to packaging for cost/aesthetic/functionality

Collaboration & Communication

  • Onboards and mentor designers as needed
  • Maintains a reputation of credibility and responsiveness with internal clients (merchants) and agents
  • Collaborates with team members to leverage shared assets and maintain consistency across design execution

Market Knowledge

  • Keeps abreast of industry and packaging trends and applies to future projects
  • Independently comp shops and shares takeaways with the team on a quarterly basis

 

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Design, or related field 
  • 7-10 years of direct experience designing and managing packaging at a large retail or wholesale company, inclusive of private label
  • Proven track record of designing and delivering on time packaging solutions that are aesthetically pleasing, cost effective and functional
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Mac/Pac operating systems, PC User
