Senior Manager, Strategic Sourcing (Indirect Categories)

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Ross Stores, Inc. is the fast-growing off-price retailer that can't be missed. We're taking the off-price retail industry by storm by delivering the best branded bargains to our customers across the nation. You will be part of making that happen.

The Strategic Sourcing Senior Manager will lead our internal and external teams to conceptualize and execute key strategic sourcing projects to help Ross procure the best services and products at the most competitive cost. In addition to traditional strategic sourcing functions which include steps such as presentation writing, , data analysis, baseline development, model building, RFP development, bid management, negotiations, offer analysis and scenario development, this role is unique in that it allows the Senior Manager to actively engage and partner with internal teams on a long term basis to help decide how much we should pay, when we should buy, and what the vendor mix should be across many large and medium sized categories of spend.

Strong leadership skills, project management and oral and written communications are key in this role as this person will be interacting with many Ross employees including peers and senior leaders especially within the Finance, Store Operations, and Loss Prevention departments. He/she will also engage a wide variety of vendors to facilitate strategic sourcing processes and support other company-wide initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Drive Strategic Sourcing Process Execution
  • Present and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization including senior management
  • Create and implement mid-to-long term detailed sourcing strategic plans and category roadmaps
  • Conduct detailed savings analysis and savings projections and synthesize into actionable recommendations
  • Lead RFx (RFQ, RFP, RFI) processes from start to finish, for projects that vary in complexity, visibility, and priority
  • Evaluate RFx responses (quantitatively and qualitatively)
  • Conduct detailed market and vendor research and communicate these findings through meaningful research summaries
  • Develop and manage complex short and long term project timelines including leading and managing internal and external teams
  • Facilitate the development of award scenarios and recommendations for stakeholder evaluation, consideration and decision-making

Project Management
  • Work with the leadership team to identify and strategically grow the Strategic Sourcing practice with an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Independently originate and execute project work plans and successfully deliver on timelines and project goals and objectives
  • Manage the Direct Imports program including multiple store fixtures categories. Interfacing with overseas suppliers in Asia and domestically in the USA is required.

Contract Development and Management
  • Lead contract negotiations with internal stakeholders and Legal from simple to complex agreements
  • Review contracts to assess for potential sourcing project opportunities
  • Meet with Contracts Counsel to follow-up on concerns relating to RFPs / sourcing projects
  • Draft contract terms upon the conclusion of a sourcing project for stakeholder hand-off/execution

Ad-Hoc Analysis and Project Support
  • Assist management with planned and unplanned projects from stakeholders across the company
  • Able to develop high quality, detailed PowerPoint presentations which tell a story and also review other team members' deliverables to give quality feedback and input.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • BA/BS in Business, Economics, Accounting or Engineering preferred. Advanced degree such as an MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years strategic sourcing experience. Multi-category sourcing experience required, including sourcing of both products and services.
  • Management consulting experience preferred; experience in retail is a plus.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to influence on multiple levels of the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, especially in front of peers and executive audiences.
  • Must have strong quantitative skills and a data driven approach to solving problems
  • Must have very close attention to details and the drive to get things right with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to listen, understand, and communicate with employees at all levels of the company.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, work independently and keep a high level of focus.
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills required.
  • Contract writing and management experience preferred.
  • Occasional international and domestic travel required with advanced notice given.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:

  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
  • Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
