GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Communications & Engagement Senior Director plays a pivotal role in building and implementing employee communications campaigns and activities to educate and engage employees, drive emotional connections to the Ross and dd's brands, support strategic business objectives, and reinforce the company culture.

Reporting to the Vice President of Communications and Engagement, the Senior Director will manage a team to support and drive the effectiveness of communications and engagement strategies through channels, such as the Company's portals, content development, measurement programs, large-scale events, and Town Halls.

This position requires a self-starter, team player, and strong writer who is comfortable working with senior business leaders to create compelling speeches, presentations, and experiences for live meetings, including video scripts and production.

The Senior Director will also manage the strategy and day-to-day management of internal digital channels (including the intranet/portal and internal social), drive creative storytelling, manage our emerging strategy for using Yammer as a recognition and communication tool, and partner with IT and HR to drive intranet/portal governance regarding best practices, site enhancements, change management and success measurement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Communications & Events

• Helps drive the development of the internal communications strategy, editorial calendar, and "campaigns" in support of business and program objectives across multiple audiences. Manages tactical execution, including stakeholder management, crafting of messages and creative development.

• Advises functional leaders on communications strategies and approaches; Lead point of contact for Corporate, Stores, and Distribution Center leadership team on communications for large scale meetings/Town Halls including messaging, speech writing, slide development, video production and event logistics.

• Strong writer who drafts Company-wide emails, speeches, video scripts for leaders.

• Partners with Strategy, HR, Investor Relations and Legal to implement major internal initiatives and engagement activities such as Town Hall meetings, internal announcements from leaders.

• Ability to synthesize complex information on diverse subjects from multiple sources into clear, concise and compelling messaging and presentations on behalf of senior leaders; must have strong writing and editing skills.

• Enables leaders to be more effective and authentic communicators by providing tools such as talking points, engagement opportunities, presentation training.

• Identifies potential communications challenges and provides strategic input for unplanned crisis communications.

Portal and Digital Content Management & Strategy

• Manage the intranet/portal content strategy to engage Associates in the company's mission, business objectives, and values. Proactively identify and write stories and leverage the internal editorial calendar to enhance communications campaigns and local messages.

• Manage portal design using SharePoint/Office 365 including publishing web pages and implementing development concepts.

• Partner with IT/HR to develop multi-year portal roadmap, identify future enhancements, and serve in a portal governance capacity.

• Review/approve other content providers' content via workflows to ensure completeness, timeliness, accuracy, and relevancy. Ensure consistent voice and AP grammatical standards, as well as Ross and dd's brand standards.

• Analyze website metrics for content effectiveness and adjust content as needed to improve on objectives.

Culture, Engagement & Recognition

• Develop Associate communications and experiences to drive the culture and celebrate company milestones.

• Explore opportunities and make recommendations on in person and virtual engagement opportunities as well as peer-to-peer recognition programs.

Analytics

• Develop a meaningful analytics framework to measure the efficacy of programs and events; evaluate and adopt the right measurement tools to support framework.

• Drive the development and implementation of employee engagement survey strategies, administration, analysis and action planning for Corporate Office and DC Associates, working closely with Associate Relations, business leaders, and the Buying Office Director of Communications & Engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or related field

• 10+ years of relevant experience knowledge, skills and abilities

• Proven track record in the field of corporate or employee communications

• Demonstrated ability to manage internal client relationships, including executive level, in mid- to large-size organizations, preferably a public and/or global company or has worked in an agency with similar client profiles.

• Experience directing the work of creative teams, (e.g., graphic designers and video production companies)

• Proficiency working with SharePoint/Office 365 and experience managing Yammer or other enterprise social networks.

• Excellent Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.

• Experience in strategic executive and employee communications, recognition and engagement

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to convey information and ideas through high-quality verbal and written communication to individuals or groups.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:

Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
