Senior Analyst, Marketing Analytics

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Senior Analyst of Marketing Analytics will be responsible for evaluating the performance of advertising activities across all channels (TV and streaming TV, online display/video, web, email, digital radio, broadcast radio, social media, social influencers, etc.). They will be a go-to analytics expert for the Marketing team, whose analysis and reporting will regularly be used to support key Marketing decisions and improve Marketing's effectiveness. This role covers both the Ross Dress for Less and dd's Discounts brands.

They will also play a major role in supporting the ongoing Return on Marketing Investment "ROMI" model, which is one of the primary ways the Marketing team determines how to allocate its budget across different advertising channels, time periods, and markets. The ROMI model is an advanced marketing mix model, rooted in AI / machine learning and built by a third-party marketing model expert, that measures the profitability of our many marketing tactics, e.g., social media posts, streaming video ads, TV commercials, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Support the ongoing ROMI (Return on Marketing Investment) modeling work.

• Use analytics expertise to set up and maintain ROMI model input and output Excel files in an efficient manner.

• Ensure the model inputs and outputs are accurate. Collaborate with our ROMI consulting firm to troubleshoot data issues that arise.

• Gather ROMI input data both by pulling data directly from Ross internal database systems and from working with cross-functional partners.

• Develop model insights and recommendations by analyzing the output data.

• Perform project management duties with support from supervisor, e.g., regularly update the work plans, attend weekly meetings and send out recaps with next steps, etc.

• Look for ways to improve processes and increase overall efficiency.

• Conduct ad-hoc analyses as needed.

Support ongoing Marketing reporting and channel database management.

• Design and prepare monthly, quarterly, and sometimes weekly reports that provide key information to Marketing leadership.
  • Reports typically focus on specific Marketing channels such as Cable/Broadcast TV, Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, etc.), Digital Media (Google Display ads, Spotify, Hulu, etc.), broadcast radio, the Ross and dd's websites, and customer emails.


• Build and maintain databases for each of our main Marketing channels.

Drive analysis to support decision-making and improve Marketing's effectiveness.

• Build and run analysis for Marketing ad-hoc requests.

• Anticipate and run additional analyses that help build to better answers.

• Create summary materials, e.g. in Excel, to provide recommendations and answers to questions. Connect analytical findings to the bigger picture.

Build a strong understanding of the Ross & dd's businesses and the various Marketing channels, tactics, and strategies.

• Understand the unique Ross and dd's off-price businesses, including the strengths and limitations.

• Become familiar with the Ross and dd's customer.

• Learn the roles of different Marketing channels and the roles of our agency partners.

Learn and apply new analytical tools and techniques.

• Be open to learning and using new analytical tools and techniques.

• Potential examples could be data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI), machine learning (Python, SPSS), automation techniques (VBA, Excel Macros), etc.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree with demonstrated strong performance from a top-tier program, preferably in a quantitative field that requires problem solving and analytical rigor.

• 3-5 years post-college work experience, in an analytically focused position.

• Excellent Excel skills (e.g., formulas, pivot tables, lookups and matches, etc.).

• Very high attention to detail and the drive to ensure data is accurate.

• Data driven approach to solving problems.

• Ability to manage multiple projects at once, adapt to changing priorities, and prioritize the most important work.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey complex analysis to both experts and non-experts.

• Ability to summarize key findings of complex analysis.

• Ability to work well both independently and with others (marketing team, cross-functional teams, marketing agency partners, etc.). Able to build and sustain collaborative relationships at all levels in the company.

• Passion for retail, analytics, and marketing preferred.

Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
