Payroll Specialist II

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Responsible for the timely and accurate processing of hourly associates’ payroll. Responsible for processing all off-cycle checks and researching returned checks and reissuing timely. Obtain and maintain a working knowledge of local, state, and/or federal pay and termination regulations. Assist with special projects as needed under the supervision of Payroll Supervisor and/or Sr. Payroll Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Process and balance bi-weekly payrolls for all store hourly personnel.
Create manual check requests for termination pay, adjustment pay, or retro pay timely and within any respective state mandates.
Process stop payments and research and reissue returned checks.
Develop effective work relationships with the DM Admin and Store Management tea to gain their trust and confidence.
Respond to all employee inquiries in a timely and effective manner.
Special projects as assigned.
Remain current on existing or new payroll guidelines, processes or any legislation impacting payroll.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

Requires 2-4 years of payroll experience.
Must be able to maintain highest level of confidentiality for all employee payroll and personnel records.
Ability to provide excellent customer service while working with frequent interruptions in a fast paced environment, meeting deadlines and/or mandates and maintain effective communication with all internal and external contacts.
Strong organization skills, ability to set priorities.
Working knowledge of Word and Excel for Windows.
Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
Knowledge of PeopleSoft a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:

Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
