About this Job:

The Packaging Designer creates and executes packaging for a broad range of Direct Imports product. Collaborates with Merchandisers to understand product label and packaging requirements. Works with Merchants to create packaging and drive overall consistency across packaging solutions, enhancing overall value of products. Collaborates with external partners (Agents, vendors) to ensure consistent and quality execution.


Packaging Design and Execution

  • Accountable for on-time delivery of production ready art work that meets Ross packaging standards
  • Manages multiple, complex packaging projects simultaneously. Works with Project Management Team to adhere to timeframe and cost guidelines
  • Evaluates feasibility of design ideas and develops packaging solutions that highlight product features and benefits
  • Designs both interior and exterior packaging graphics. Ensures that packaging is attractive, high quality, and follows communication hierarchy
  • Adapts private label brands and unbranded looks across multiple formats and product categories ensuring business needs are met

Collaboration & Communication

  • Directs corrective actions with agents to resolve packaging issues (accurate die lines, vendor photography)
  • Supports Packaging Manager on product photography as needed (shot direction, shot approval proxy)
  • Able to anticipate/troubleshoot post production challenges and proactively address with partners

Process Management

  • Supports and adheres to Ross standardized Packaging processes
  • Supports continual process improvement and presents recommendations to Packaging Manager
  • Updates Ross Packaging guidelines and standards, as needed
  • Engages with internal clients (merchants) to present and revise timely packaging deliverables

Market Knowledge

  • Maintains knowledge of industry and packaging trends and applies to new projects

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Design, or related field
  • 5-7 years of direct experience designing and managing packaging at a large retail or wholesale company
    Proven track record of designing packaging and boxing solutions that are aesthetically pleasing, cost effective and functional
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Mac/Pac operating systems, PC User
