Manager, Sustainability

GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Manager will advance Ross' company-wide sustainability program by building and implementing data and analytics solutions and by driving key initiatives. Responsibilities will include leading sustainability measurement and reporting efforts, conducting data analysis, supporting internal and external communication, and engaging with cross-functional subject matter experts and leaders. The Manager will also assess and manage potential sustainability projects and define and monitor KPIs.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for data and organization, as well as a deep knowledge
and experience with climate and other sustainability topics, frameworks, and project implementation. Strong analytical, project management, collaboration, and communication skills are mandatory for this role. The Manager will report to the Director of Sustainability and will have significant exposure to Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability as well as Ross' senior leadership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Lead the measurement and reporting workstream
  • Develop data management processes and tools to execute data capture, validation, analysis, and external reporting of key sustainability impacts, including waste and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in methodologies for measuring all scopes of GHG emissions and waste (e.g., GHG Protocol, EPA WasteWise) and in reporting frameworks (e.g., SASB, TCFD, and GRI)
  • Manage annual CDP response and coordinate GHG inventory calculation
  • Translate sustainability performance into business metrics
  • Support internal and external communication about sustainability and ESG achievements

Drive sustainability initiatives
  • Investigate opportunities to increase energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and minimize waste throughout our operations and supply chain
  • Project manage sustainability initiatives and develop KPIs to measure outcomes
  • Facilitate cross-functional partnerships to drive meaningful results

Inform strategic direction for sustainability program
  • Work with Director and the Environmental Sustainability Steering Committee to maintain and advance a multi-year sustainability strategy and action plan
  • Assess risks and opportunities to inform Ross' sustainability priorities
  • Monitor climate change, waste, and ESG industry trends, best practices, regulations, and peer benchmarks

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • BA/BS preferably in Engineering, Business/Economics, or Environmental Science
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience working with sustainability reporting, metrics, standards, or guidance, preferably with a retailer or consultancy.
  • Extensive expertise with relevant GHG emissions and waste reporting standards and frameworks (e.g., CDP, SBTi, TCFD, GRI, SASB, SDGs, GHG protocol, etc.), as well as experience in the technical practices of monitoring and measuring environmental footprints and project performance. Experience managing and measuring Scope 3 emissions and recycling initiatives a plus.
  • Analytical skills necessary to evaluate data, assess feasibility, and develop project ideas. A deep understanding of applied sustainability analytics, and experience in financial valuation and how to align sustainability with business goals.
  • Organized and independent worker with clear abilities in solving problems and making strong recommendations.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to step into all levels of roles as the sustainability program evolves.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and execution skills with unwavering attention to detail.
  • Collaboration skills and the ability to execute projects with multiple objectives and stakeholders.
  • Strong PowerPoint, Word and Excel skills; experience with Engie Impact Platform is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
This role requires regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work.
