Manager, Store Ops Finance

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Store Operations Manager will conduct critical strategic analysis for the Stores teams at Ross and dd's Discounts. They will be responsible for analyzing significant amounts of data accurately and quickly to reveal store performance trends and their root causes and will partner with the VP to summarize the results into clear written communications for executive review. These reporting and analysis responsibilities are a mix of recurring (weekly, monthly, quarterly) and ad-hoc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Conduct executive-level store reporting analysis and report building

• Design and conduct financial and operational analysis to understand drivers of performance, diagnose causes of weak performance and identify root causes of changes in performance trends. Examples include drill down sales analysis, macro-economic analysis, store operating metric analysis, and cannibalization and competitive analysis
Conduct practical & comprehensive data analysis to identify changes in performance trends, including root cause, and identify potential solutions for correcting issues identified

• Design and conduct financial and operational ad hoc analyses to understand drivers of performance and identify root causes of changes in performance trends. Examples include store sales analysis (by various store segmentations), store contribution analysis, analysis of operational metrics including shrink, impact from Store Operations initiatives, "secret shop" customer service scores, customer receipt survey results and other metrics

• Proactively identify opportunities and execute analysis to develop tangible and fact-based recommendations to improve performance

• Manage projects from end to end including work plan creation, coordination with other functions in the organization, and support materials development and verbal communication / presentation of findings and recommendations
Develop compelling materials to communicate results of analysis and key insights on recommendations

• Materials should be appropriate for mid-level through "C-suite" executives

• Additionally, present these findings in executive meetings
Own MyDashboard (Field scorecard for key performance and operational metrics) and support the annual report automation process

• Serve as primary owner of field-facing MyDashboard reporting, leading field education and responding to user inquiries as needed

• Support the annual process to collect and prioritize requested changes to existing reports and requests for automation or creation of new reports

• Work with IT and business users to help create report requirement and design documents and facilitate the review and approval of these documents

• Support the Store Operations team as needed to facilitate the rollout and change management processes for new and or changed reports

• Serve as the data expert for the Store Dashboard and facilitate implementation of dashboard enhancements

• Partner with IT to manage the Store ticket prioritization process and escalate critical tickets as needed

• Proactively identify and initiate improvements to the Field reporting process
Lead and provide support for other analysis and reporting as needed

• Provide support for any sales, operational, or financial inquiry as needed - particularly from executive leadership

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Bachelor's degree required (preferably in an analytical field)

• Strong candidates will have a minimum of 5 years post college experience, preferably with a consulting firm or retailer

• Outstanding analytical ability - must have a data driven approach to solving problems. Requires strong quantitative skills, a good sense of how to dissect problems and a strong ability to "connect the dots" (e.g., understand how pieces of data interact with each other or how one finding should inform the result of another analysis)

• A clear understanding of basic financial, statistical and economic concepts

• Excellent communication skills - must be able to clearly communicate results and implications of analysis in both verbal and written (PowerPoint) forms

• A detail-oriented approach: Must be detail oriented and utilize "DRIFT" (Do It Right The First Time)

• Ability to build effective relationships with a wide variety of internal customers, including store and field leadership. Must be able to listen, understand and communicate with multiple levels from peers to Executives

• Strong fundamental business technical skills - must be Excel and PowerPoint proficient and have an ability to learn new business process software applications (Hyperion, DART, Flash Sales).

• High comfort level working in ambiguous, rapidly changing environments and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Must be trustworthy with confidential data and other information

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:

Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
