IT Manager II (Data Center Infrastructure)

GENERAL PURPOSE:
The IT Manager II is responsible for evaluation, selection and implementation of Data Center solutions to address current and future business needs. Responsible for managing and coordinating systems projects, data center and production support related activities.
Coordinates the efforts of internal and external staff, and of key business partners in the support of existing production systems and in the execution of new system projects. Serves as a functional and/or technical expert in one or more disciplines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• With business or IT partner support, manages competing demands through negotiation and compromise to ensure that the holistic needs of the organization are met. Brings knowledge of industry best practices and applies that information in discussing solutions that may address those needs. Provides visibility to existing technology standards and practices across infrastructure portfolios.

• Manges a cohesive team of highly trained professionals, technical experts and key IT partners. Leads efforts in the support of existing systems, processes, services, and / or in the execution of new projects insuring that:
o Coordinates the efforts of internal and external technical staff in the support of new and existing data center production systems Detailed project plans are created, covering the entire life cycle, and any associated project budgets
o Requirements are accurately defined
o Systems/Infrastructure are designed, purchased, and installed that meet the defined requirements, and that execute efficiently
o All required user, system and support documentation is created accurately
o Projects are completed on time, on budget and anticipated benefits are achieved

• Manages the technology break-fix and installation activities across the data center
o Provides support to vendors who need to come on-site to perform break-fix or installation activities
o Evaluates space constraints and plans for technology installations, partnering with IT engineering and support teams to understand their short- and long-term requirements for technology implementations
o Plans and supports the installation and decommissioning of computing infrastructure hardware, cabling and associated administrative activities within the data center
o Plans and supports the installation and decommissioning of computing infrastructure hardware, cabling and associated administrative activities at the disaster recovery location
o Proactively meets with the IT engineering and support teams to understand their future requirements for the data center

• Evaluates technical designs, developing alternatives, and recommending appropriate solutions

• Collaborates with others throughout IT to ensure timely and successful issue resolution

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

• At least 8-10 years of working experience managing data center infrastructure in a 24/7 data center environment

• A solid understanding of data center industry technology, standards and best practices

• Demonstrated ability to anticipate and handle complex issues and break down barriers to resolve conflicts and find solutions

• Solid understanding of data center IT computing hardware technologies and structured cabling. Experience with DCIM tools

• Demonstrated project management experience

• Ability to identify IT computing hardware issues and leverage both internal/external resources to drive resolution.

• Demonstrated ability to execute basic financial analysis and manage budgets

• Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization

• Some travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of IT hardware including HP, and Oracle, with the ability to perform hardware troubleshooting and break-fix

• Understanding of complex network and SAN environments, particularly with Cisco and Brocade

• Experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems, the Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Project and Visio

• Experience and understanding of the data center facilities environment including electrical and mechanical systems is a plus

• PMP Certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
Job requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, sometimes using a ladder, and working overhead
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
This role requires regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. This is not a work from home or remote position.
