Domestic Inbound Planner

GENERAL PURPOSE:

To develop and coordinate the inbound flow of merchandise from domestic and international sources to multiple retail distribution centers. This service must be provided at an economical level according to Ross service requirements. This position will interface with carriers, stores, and Ross departments or divisions as appropriate.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and implement the transportation plan for inbound freight from Ross vendors to DC’s. Provide analysis and support for inbound group in all areas of inbound transportation, including transportation scheduling, tracking/ tracing. This will be accomplished through analysis and execution of the Manugistics TM
  • Responsible for the analysis and execution of optimal freight levels for multiple DC’s based on budgeted productivity by product class
  • Support customer service to multiple divisions with Ross to resolve any transportation-related issues or problems
  • Develop carrier performance reports in regards to service issues and compliance
  • Assist with any projects requested by the Inbound Transportation Supervisor or Manager
  • Interactive ability to generate strong relationships and client confidence
  • Ability to maintain a total service focus to all customers, including buyers, DC’s and vendors

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate with all levels and departments both within and outside the company.
  • High level working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills
  • 4-6 years experience in a transportation atmosphere
  • 2-5 years customer service experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in work experience
  • Strong self-motivation and the ability to work aggressively to complete projects
  • Must pass Math, MS Word, and Excel aptitude testing
  • Preferred college degree in Transportation or Logistics
  • Preferred 7-8 years of transportation operations\staff experience with knowledge of carrier logistics
  • Preferred experience with Transportation Module
  • Preferred experience with hands-on utilization of current supply-chain software applications and systems
  • Preferred transportation background within the retail industry

  • Requirements: Consistent timeliness and regular attendance. Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer. The job also requires sitting, standing, walking, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
  • Occasional Requirements: Job occasionally requires bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • May also require occasional driving and/or traveling overnight for business functions or site visits.
  • Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
