Director, Indirect Procurement

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Ross Stores, Inc. is the fast-growing off-price retailer that can't be missed. We're taking the off-price retail industry by storm by delivering the best branded bargains to our customers across the nation. You will be part of making that happen.

The Director of Indirect Procurement (Distribution Centers and Capital) will be expected to provide support to our existing and new distribution centers (DCs), managing the procurement of indirect supplies while also introducing and implementing best practices and process improvements. In addition, responsibilities include the forecasting, purchasing, and production planning of capital spend (e.g. merchandise moving equipment and IT hardware and software).

The ideal candidate must have a strong background in indirect procurement, supply chain, and finance. This candidate will have experience buying and negotiating indirect supplies, managing supplier relationships, and leading a team. To be successful, the Director of Indirect Procurement (DCs and Capital) needs to closely partner with several stakeholders (both peers and executive leaders) across the company and manage a dynamic team. The Director will need to manage critical suppliers, leverage spend, diversify the supplier base to reduce risk, and ensure that Ross maximizes on value.

Strong project management, outstanding problem-solving skills, and communication skills are a must. The candidate will also need an entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify process improvement opportunities. The Director will report to the Vice President, Indirect Procurement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Manage the Indirect Procurement Process for Distribution Centers and Capital Spend
  • Manage demand planning and ensure inventory levels can support demand, create and manage activity reports such as spend recaps, supplier back orders, usage and forecasts
  • Support day-to-day procurement responsibilities including error-free PO execution and expense control and support the month-end/year-end close process
  • Monitor macro-level environmental impacts on supply budget and orders (e.g. raw material shortages, transit price increases and delays) and proactively propose alternatives and contingency plans
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities
  • Maintain SOX and Purchase Order compliance controls for all transactions and workflows
  • Establish buying policies, best practices, performance scorecards, and relationship & risk management
  • Communicate with business partners on an ongoing basis regarding supply needs and challenges
  • Supplier Management
  • Support the Strategic Sourcing team in conducting RFP/RFQ/RFI's and supplier and contract negotiations as needed (including drafting, redlining, and signature)
  • Manage the ongoing performance of our suppliers including setting objectives, service level agreements (SLAs) tracking, and performance reporting (scorecarding)
  • Mitigate risk by introducing supplier redundancy, monitoring supplier financial health
  • Ad-Hoc Analysis and Project Support
  • Manage both planned and unplanned projects from stakeholders across the company
  • Partner with business leaders to create project roadmaps and savings tracking documents
  • Develop high quality, detailed PowerPoint presentations

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • BA or BS in Business Management, Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, or related field.
  • 10+ years of work experience in procurement, supply chain, etc.
  • Collaboration skills with the proven ability to influence.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and issues with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, especially in front of an executive audience.
  • Must have experience leading a team.
  • Highly organized, strong attention to detail, and ability to balance several challenging projects concurrently.
  • Expert level understanding in spend management, procurement best practices and business systems (ERP/MRP/WMS systems).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:
Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
This role requires regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work.
