Director, Compensation (HR)

The Compensation Director is responsible for managing the non-executive compensation function for Corporate, Distribution Center and Stores Associates. The Compensation Director plans, develops and implements new and revised compensation programs, policies and procedures in order to be responsive to the company's goals and competitive practices. This position is also responsible for assuring that company compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with company policies and government regulations thorough audits and reports. In addition, this position leads the HR Reporting & Analytics team in providing HR data to the business.

  • Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, guidelines and procedures recommending plan changes or proposing new plans that are cost effective and consistent with compensation trends and corporate objectives.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition and managers on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretation and job evaluation including the design of creative solutions to specific compensation-related challenges.
  • Works with leadership to conduct market surveys, gather market intelligence and establish salary structures.
  • Manages the annual focal process for Corporate (non-executives), Distribution Centers, Store Management and Store Hourly Associates.
  • Develops techniques for compiling, preparing and presenting data to inform management and guide short- and long-term planning.
  • Manages the administration of direct compensation including the processing, recording and reporting of compensation-related actions.
  • Develops creative solutions to compensation-related challenges that balance business considerations with associate retention and engagement objectives.
  • Supervises the participation in salary surveys and other market data collection activities, including gathering information from competitor public filings
  • Partners with the HR team to develop effective communication strategies to convey the value of our Compensation and Benefits programs to associates.
  • Performs ad hoc analysis to support business needs.
  • Keeps apprised of federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations in order to ensure company compliance.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business or related field.
  • Ten years of progressive responsibility in compensation, or comparable experience in finance or consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas: job leveling, market pricing, data analysis, research and cost modeling.
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities and multi-task in a dynamic environment with minimal direction.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • High integrity and ethics in managing confidential information.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory issues.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
