Communications Specialist - Operations

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Responsible for maintaining all store communications, policies and procedures in a clearly defined voice and brand as well as managing the distribution and tracking of resulting communications in a variety of formats. Has a strong passion and advocacy for the field and their success, and uses that passion as the lens through which communication strategy is developed and implemented.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Field Communications and Advocacy
• Designs and produces quality written and visual communications to meet the needs of the Operations group (manuals, store meeting agendas, task management communications, quick guides, etc.)
• Develops strong relationships with field partners and leverages those relationships to ensure communications are high impact and relevant.
• Develops and implements communication strategies and communicates the rollout of new programs or technology to stores for efficient adoption. Advises business partners on appropriate strategies.
• Works cross-functionally with various business partner teams.
• Maintains appropriate language for audience in all communications to support the Ross cultural experience. Models the Ross values-driven voice of leadership.
• Proactively seeks feedback to improve communications and visits stores to evaluate effectiveness.
• Supports event planning and execution for annual Store Manager and Field leadership meetings.
• Responsible for holding business partners accountable to adhering to Communications timelines and overall strategy.

Project Management and Administration
• Responsible for preparing and publishing procedures, forms and manuals for all stores (i.e. gathers technical information, researches procedures, layouts and graphics illustrations).
• Manages assigned projects to ensure that internal procedures such as schedules, proof readings, printing approvals, and job archiving have been properly completed.
• Responsible for maintaining documentation updates with indexing and tracking systems.
• Maintains calendars for milestones and releases for annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly communications
• Seeks feedback and obtains consensus from project initiation through final product approval.
• Proposes communications solutions to senior management effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

• College degree in relevant field and 3 years of experience in relevant field
• Solid written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to effectively interact with business partners autonomously and with confidence
• Stays current with new communications technologies and processes, is naturally curious and is focused on continuous improvement
• Advanced PC Skills, Microsoft Office Applications, Publisher, Adobe Illustrator
• Strong project management skills
• Understanding of retail store operations preferred
• Ability to understand and interpret functions and systems used by the stores

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ADA:

No unusual physical requirements. Requires no heavy lifting, and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; travel or other inconveniences have advance notice; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
Job frequently requires sitting, handling objects with hands.
Job occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching, talking, hearing, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
