About this job:

Functions as the operational extension of assigned Director(s), Product Development and Ross Buyer(s). Serves as the liaison between the Ross merchant group and the Import Product Development division. Involved in the strategic direction of the Import Product Development division and conducts business analyses and recommendations based on market knowledge and interaction with Ross merchants and Import Product Development management. The expectation is to prepare the incumbent for promotability to Senior Associate Merchandiser and as future bench strength for Director, Product Development position.

Responsibilities:

Product Direction:

Partners with the Import Product Development division to ensure assortment follows strategy to include identifying and forecasting trends, shopping themes, correct color, style and packaging. Demonstrates ability to correctly apply planned product specifications development by DMM(s), GVP, Imports, and Director, Product Development to allow Ross buyer(s) to purchase product/value otherwise not available in the domestic market. Responsible for tracking PO worksheets. Partners with Director, Product Development on weekly selling analysis and trend forecasting

Coordinates effectively overseas with Import Product Development division and Agents to obtain appropriate samples, review pre-production packaging, tracking of shipments and confirmation of product testing results

 

Responsible for maintaining and developing Agent relationships. Demonstrates the ability to adapt communication and negotiation skills within divergent countries and cultures. Demonstrates exceptional follow through with Agents and Import Product Development division while travelling. Elicits critical information from Agents and business environment

 

Insures logistical concerns are addressed in tandem with GVP, Imports, Director(s), Product Development, Ross merchants, logistics and finance departments. Follows established processes to insure seamless shipping, correct delivery terms and payment. Demonstrates knowledge of customs, duties, tariffs, freight and containerization

 

Demonstrates problem solving skills. Partners with Director, Product Development to assess merchandise mix to continually improve the import assortment. Anticipates potential problems and risks; generates ideas, insights and solutions to resolve or "head off" potential problems. Uses all available data to analyze situations and interpret statistics to recommend timely and sound business decisions. Ability to assess price/value relationship based on knowledge of market conditions

 

Responsible for maintaining effective collaboration, openly sharing pertinent business information to all divisions. Works effectively with all operational and analytical divisions (Ross merchants, Control, Store Planning, DCs) to achieve objectives

  • Proven strong intuitive merchant
  • Understanding of design process and line development
