Associate Director, Compliance

General Purpose:

The Associate Director, Compliance will develop and manage the strategic and tactical aspects of Ross' Social Compliance and Product Testing programs. The position will support the Legal/ Compliance team's effort to promote and ensure legal, ethical, responsible, and safe product sourcing across the Company. The Associate Director will be part of Ross' Legal/Compliance team located in the New York Buying Office and will work with domestic and international business stakeholders.

The primary day-to-day role is to develop, refine, and/or execute strategies and programs that support the business objectives and help manage trade-related /regulatory compliance risk. The Associate Director will provide support and counsel primarily to the PSS, merchant, and operational teams. The role will assess and execute best practice policies and proactive protocols that anticipate compliance/regulatory trends, address associated risks, and advance the business objectives.

The Associate Director will oversee and assist with the tactical administration of the global third-party audit and corrective action programs; implement a vendor equivalency initiative; assist with the buying agent performance tracking; and support the product testing enhancement programs. This role will also assist the trade and regulatory attorneys in addressing contemporaneous compliance/regulatory-related issues, challenges, and risks, including, but not limited to, regulatory violations, potential reputational risks, and vendor corrective action requirements.

The position will report to the Vice President, Trade & Regulatory Counsel.

Essential Functions:
  • Develop and manage strategic/tactical objectives for the overall social compliance program
  • Execute on compliance objectives and program enhancement workstreams, including but not limited to development and maintenance of vendor grading/scorecard and product testing programs
  • Collect, analyze, communicate, and implement industry best practices and benchmarking related to sourcing compliance protocols
  • Provide clear and actionable advice and counsel to the PSS, Merchant, and operational teams on process enhancements, programmatic solutions, trends, and/or contemporaneous/responsive actions to address sourcing/compliance incidents/risks
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to the Company's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to social and product compliance
  • Oversee and directly manage:
    • scheduling, tracking, and cataloguing of third-party audits, corrective action plans and vendor compliance administration
    • administration of the vendor equivalency program
    • buying agent inspection and performance tracking
    • product testing implementation and performance program
  • Collaborate and build communitive and productive relationships with oversees compliance counterparts and team members across the Legal and Compliance department
  • Manage relationships with NGOs and relevant industry organizations
  • Assist with developing and editing PowerPoint presentations, trainings, updates and other communications to the business partners and relevant internal stakeholders

Qualifications and Special Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, required
  • 7+ years relevant experience in relevant trade, import and/or sourcing compliance role at large or mid-size retailer/importer, required
  • Track record of developing/maintaining a compliance programs that are tied to driving/validating a retailer/importer's code of conduct.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills with attention to detail
  • Flexible team player with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills who comfortable engaging international stakeholders
  • Experience managing a large volume of work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills including ability to communicate in plain language
