Analyst, Store Scheduling

GENERAL PURPOSE:
The Analyst, Store Scheduling will maintain our in-store scheduling (Workforce Management) system and will provide critical financial and strategic analysis support to the Stores teams at Ross and dd's Discounts. Beyond store scheduling, the Analyst will also design and complete other ad-hoc analyses and reports, as needed, and will summarize the results of those analyses into clear written communications for executive review. The Analyst will have significant exposure in this role to all aspects of Store Operations and will build a solid foundation for future career growth at Ross.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Store scheduling system setup and maintenance
  • Perform maintenance of Store and Department Profiles (operating hours) and Store Attributes (e.g., Markdown Gun count, Register Counts, Store Entrance Counts by Store)
  • Diagnose root causes of incorrect/missing workload in the store scheduling system
  • Model and assess store-specific concerns related to store operating hours and Department hours changes (e.g., cashier, sales floor, cash office, stock, etc.)
  • Identify, and implement, improvements to the configuration and maintenance of the in-store scheduling tool and store data management (SDM) tool
  • Resolve Help Desk Tickets related to store associate scheduling and payroll questions related to schedules
  • Oversee preparation of a monthly recap summarizing ticket volume and themes
  • Partner with cross-functional partners to fully understand and address in-store scheduling issues raised by stores and field leadership
  • Conduct modeling and communications to diagnose problems, test solutions, advise on how to prevent future issues, and train store management on store associate scheduling best practices

Operating Improvements
  • Model configuration changes within the in-store scheduling system to drive forecast accuracy and scheduling improvement
  • Take ownership of any in-store scheduling initiatives including testing, gathering data, soliciting feedback, and socializing within the organization
  • Partner with the Store Communications Team to develop chain-wide directives regarding the in-store scheduling system
  • Drive cross-functional relationships with the Method Improvements Team to ensure awareness of potential process changes which impact store associate scheduling. Assist in analyzing schedule/workload impacts of said projects
  • Lead system upgrades through the development of test plans and user acceptance testing
  • Develop compelling materials to communicate results of analyses, key insights, and recommendations to mid- and "C"- level executives within the company

Data Collection and Ad-hoc Analysis
  • Perform analysis that identifies root causes of changes in in-store scheduling system performance trends and identifies potential solutions for correcting issues identified
  • Design and conduct financial and operational analysis of key initiatives (particularly during the pilot phase) to understand drivers of performance, diagnose causes of weak performance, and identify profit improvement opportunities - examples include optimizing the staffing of our jewelry counters, analyzing the impact of associate turnover on productivity levels, etc.
  • The Analyst will also be responsible for completing other complex, ad hoc financial analyses as needed and will summarize the results of those analyses into clear written communications for executive review

Documentation and Training
  • Create and update current user guides, process flows and training materials for operation and maintenance of the in-store scheduling system and Store Data Management (SDM) system
  • Utilize the created documentation to ensure other members of the Store Operations team are trained to act as a backup

Weekly File Loads
  • Responsible for weekly planned metric and forecast loads in WFM system
  • Ensure the accuracy of data by creating checks and balances

QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree required (preferably in an analytical field)
  • Ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of Retail experience
  • Outstanding analytical ability - must have a data-driven approach to solving problems
  • Requires very strong quantitative skills, a good sense of how to dissect problems and a strong ability to "connect the dots" - e.g., understand how pieces of data interact with each other or how one finding should inform the result of another analysis
  • A clear understanding of basic financial, statistical and economic concepts
  • Excellent communication skills - must be able to clearly communicate results and implications of analysis in both verbal and written (PowerPoint) forms
  • A detail-oriented approach: Must pay very close attention to details and have the drive to get things right
  • Strong fundamental business technical skills - must have strong Excel and PowerPoint skills and have an ability to quickly learn new business process software applications
  • Teamwork - needs to be able to build effective working relationships within and outside the Store Finance team
  • Must be trustworthy with confidential information

Job requires ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer.
Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files, etc.
Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
This role requires regular in-office presence, including to engage in in-person team interaction. However, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work.
