About this job:
Working closely with and through Technical Services leadership, Sample team and Merchants this position ensures that the product in their assigned areas is consistent with Ross Stores approved or agreed upon fit, grading and construction standards/guidelines as established for area and/or vendor. The position trains and guides the Sample team in sample measurement and checking. Cultivates relationship with Merchants and Vendors to ensure best in class value proposition.


Technical Training
  • Development and training of Sample team so that they can successfully support the fit approval process, concentrating on fit and construction, prep for fit sessions, evaluate samples and write comments and communicate with vendors
  • Technical oversight and training of the Sample team in using live model, body form or flat measurements to assess the fit, proportion and overall styling of garments to ensure vision of Merchant is achieved
  • Technical oversight and training of the Sample team in the inspection of garment construction and workmanship as requested by Merchant and Sample team leadership
  • Leads follow-up support and assessment testing, on an ongoing basis, to determine the effectiveness of training provided sample team
  • Own and manage Sample team training schedules and course materials for product areas
Proactively Impact Execution of Fit, Grading and Construction
  • Support Merchants in technical aspects of make up product from concept to purchase order creation as requested
  • Collaborate with Technical Services leadership on comprehensive competitive analysis of fit, grading and construction standards to support Merchants
  • Partner with Technical Services leadership and Fashion Office to proactively advise Merchants on any technical concerns raised by trends
  • Collaborate with Technical Services leadership on vendor scorecarding and Vendor submitted corrective action plans.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Design, Fashion Design, Patternmaking
  • Ten plus years of technical design, engineering, experience
  • Required knowledge, skills and ability to fit and interpret fit.
  • Ability to train and mentor
  • Experience leading fit sessions and the ability to communicate corrections
  • In depth knowledge of textiles, construction and patternmaking experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
